Source is most likely the Southend Evening Echo, November 1981 but I do not have the exact date, left - a scan of the actual clipping. Laindon Pensioner Irene Dagg is starry-eyed. She has just had a birthday celebration of a lifetime with a host of international stage and screen stars. Irene 63 of Gaywood Laindon, won a glittering night on the town through a Woman's weekly competition. She was one of 2,000 readers celebrating birthdays at the same time as the magazine which is 70 years old. FRIEND She was wined and dined at the Cafe Royal and rubbed shoulders with celebrities like Rodney Bewes, Virginia McKenna, Clive Dunn and David Kossoff after her name was drawn out of a hat. She took her friend Kathy Hardacre of Upminster with her and the two stayed the night in London at a top hotel. She said: It was a really lovely evening with so much to remember" Irene's good luck did not end there. Her family took her to a bingo club later in the week and she won 77 pound " I am not normally one for the bingo but I was lucky that night. The whole week was wonderful " I remember I was a little miffed at the time, as I had actually seen the piece in the magazine and had put her name forward and I did not get a mention!
