Percy worked for the Southend water Company and was by all accounts an aggressive little man. My mother’s childhood wasn’t very happy as she and her mother (Daisy) were beaten by him. He was a talented musician (violin) however temper got the better of him and he once broke it over his knee! I play guitar now, which I like to think may have come from him, but I keep my temper in check! He also had a mistress (don’t know her name) and used to cycle to her house for his “cocoa”. I gather that it was after a particular evening of “cocoa” that he had a heart attack and died. My grandmother had to walk up to her house and identify him. He apparently was smiling!
